2 years BA/BSc programme abolished, four years BS programme in 2018: DG HEC

GILGIT: Director General Academic Division, HigherEducation Commission (HEC), Dr Muhammad Raza Chohan has said two years BA/BScprogramme was being abolished from 2018 which is to be replaced by BS four yearsprogramme based on semesters system as per the policy of the Commission toprepare quality manpower for future challenges.
He said while addressing the five days national seminarbeing held at Karakuram International University here Thursday.
The DG underscored the need for gradual replacement of theongoing conventional BA/BSc programme with four years BS semester system toprepare students with modern days challenges besides adaptation of new educationsystem.
The workshop on semesters system continued here atKakarkuram International University on the third day where speakers highlightedimportance of BS four years education programme.
The seminar was organized in collaboration of Quality EnhancementCell Karakuram International University (KIU) and Academic Division of HigherEducation Commission (HEC) Islamabad.
Dr Muhammad Raza Chohan said as per the policy of theCommission, two years BA/BSc programme was being abolished from 2018 which is tobe replaced by BS four years programme based on semesters system.
Controller examination Bahuddin Zakria University Multan, DrMuhammad Umar Chaudhry highlighted national qualification framework, under-graduationand graduate programs for different scheme of studies, credit and rules andregulations of the semesters system.
Chairman HEC Quality Enhancement Cell and Chairman EducationDepartment Sargodha University gave special lectures on the course filling andassessment system.
The ceremony was attended by Secretary Education GB, HajiSanaullah and attended by DG HEC Academic Dvision Muhammad Raza Chohan, ActingVC KIU Dr Prof Khalil Ahmed, Register KIU Dr Abdul Hameed Lon and Dean DrMuhammad Ramzan, Controller Examination Muhammad Arif, Director QEC, Mir TazeemAkhtar, Director Colleges Manzoor Karim and Principles of various colleges ofthe GB.
The Secretary in hisaddress said fast track changes were being witnessed in the education sectorand resting great responsibilities on the teachers.
He said we need to work hard and take these responsibilitieswith more dedication and seriousness to meet the desired goals.
The Government, he said, was well aware of the problemsbeing faced by the university administration regarding implementing elimination of two years BA/BScprogram and starting of BS four years programme at the college level.
The Secretary hoped that HEC would guide us in this regardas it was a national policy and we have to implement it. Therefore thisworkshop would be instrumental in preparation of recommendations in thisregard.
The acting Vice Chancellor KIU, Prof Dr Khalil said HEC offand on conducted training workshops, seminars and conferences to make awareacademia about policies of HEC.
