Sartaj Aziz exchanges pleasantries with Sushma Swaraj in Nepal

KHATMANDU: Pakistan’s foreign policy chief Sartaj Aziz met with India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during a dinner hosted by Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and exchanged pleasantries.

Both the leaders sat next to each other and continued their discussion for some times.

It is claimed that a formal meeting is scheduled between the two leaders on Thursday soon after the SAARC meeting.

An Indian diplomat said “The meeting between the external affairs minister and Sartaj Aziz will take place on Thursday, soon after the SAARC meeting.”

On the other hand Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar was also present on the other table with his Pakistani counterpart Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhary.

A diplomat said “There were no structured or formal talks, but they interacted during the event and also exchanged pleasantries.”

It is the first time that foreign secretaries of both the countries planned a meeting after Pathankot terror attacks.

It is also claimed that Sartaj Aziz handed over an invitation from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to hold the next SAARC summit in Islamabad later this year.
