In a first, PTI government to establish Poverty Alleviation Coordination Council in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - The National Assembly resumed its session at the parliament house in Islamabad on Thursday with Speaker Asad Qaiser in the chair.

The National Assembly was informed that poverty alleviation coordination council is being established to synergize the efforts of various organizations for poverty alleviation.

Minister for Planning and Development Makhdoom Khurso Bukhtiar told the house during question hour that the scope of Benazir Income Support Program, Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund and Pakistan Baitul Mal are being expanded to graduate the poor people out of poverty.

He said our efforts are to divert resources to the development of less developed areas. He said we are expanding coverage of health insurance scheme and up-scaling efforts to reduce stunted growth of children.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan told the House that Islamabad Food Security Act has been prepared which envisages the establishment of Islamabad Food Authority to check food adulteration.
