Income Tax returns filing date extension: FBR clarifies media report

ISLAMABAD - The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has clarified that it has not extended the last date for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2018 after the expiry of the extended deadline on December 15.

The Board said that the date was changed to December 17, 2018 to fulfill the requirements of the law.

FBR had extended the last date for filing income tax returns – for taxpayers including salary persons, business individuals, the association of persons (AOPs) and corporate entities- to December 15, 2018.

The last date for filing income tax returns was on Saturday, which is not a working day. Under the law, if a date expires on a weekly holiday than it will automatically be extended to the next working day.

Therefore, the return filing date was automatically extended to December 17, 2018, which is the next working day.
