CJP takes suo moto notice over LHC orders on anti judiciary speeches

ISLAMABAD - A suo moto notice has been taken by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar on Lahore High Court’s decision to bar Pemra from transmission of anti-judiciary speeches by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and leaders of their party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

The hearing on the notice would be held today at 1pm. In this regard notices has been issued to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) while record of the suo motu notice has also been sought.

Earlier, on April 16, Lahore High Court (LHC) rule the verdict on over two dozen petitions filed against 'anti-judiciary' speeches by Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other party leaders.

The court ordered Pemra to decide on the petitions in 15 days and till then was being stopped from airing any contemptuous remarks.
