ISLAMABAD - The Babe-e-Dosti border crossing at Pak-Afghan border in Chaman remained shut amid growing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan over the issue of border fencing.
All trade activities through the border crossing remain suspended.
Security officials said Pakistan has extended an offer to open the gate, but Afghan authorities rejected it. However, citizens from both sides are allowed to cross the border by walk.
On the other side, the customs officials said that the suspended economic activities include the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) supplies and Afghan Transit Trade among others. ------------------------------
The customs authorities have further divulged that various trucks of perishable produce naming grapes and pomegranate are stuck on the border.
It is pertinent to mention here that clashes erupted on Oct 14 between Pakistani and Afghan forces over border fencing near the Durand Line in Spin Boldak district.
