SC laments Geo group for publishing fake news

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court took a serious note of Jang media group, its editors and reporters on gross misreporting of court proceedings.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the sou motu notice regarding the misquoting of Jang group with headline “Govt lacks capability, planning : says CJP”.

During course of proceedings, Chief Justice said "We are surprised as the court never made such observations about the Federal Government, In fact some observations were made against the Capital Development Authority (CDA)”.

He asked why Geo News and The News were trying to create misunderstanding between the national institutions.
Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan asked who was Shah Zaib Khanzada, as he and others of this group's anchor persons conducted programmes on a fake news.

Chief Justice remarked that why not the court ban the entry of this media group's reporters in the apex court.
Hanif Khalid, Editor of the group while accepting the mistake tendered un conditional apology before the bench.
Subsequently, the bench while giving them serious warning accepted the apology and disposed of the notice.
