Karachi on the verge of acute Water crisis

KARACHI: After the electricity shortage issue, the economic hub of Pakistan, Karachi is all set for another big problem.
Water crisis might deepen further in the metropolis as water in Keenjhar Lake has fallen to an alarming level, setting alarm bells ringing far and wide.
Water level in Keenjhar Lake, which provides water to the entire city, had fallen from 52 RL (reduced level) to 46.40. The falling water level might lead to acute water shortage in the metropolis if the higher authorities did not take notice of the situation, said local officials.
They said water supply to the city might be stopped on account of low water level in the lake which might reach record-low at 42 RL. However, they said, water level in the Indus River at Kotri Barrage has been recorded at 13065 cusecs.
