SC directs govt to pay RS 2.4 billion to EOBI

ISLAMABAD:The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Secretary Finance to pay Rs 2.4 billion to Employees Old-age Benefit Institution (EOBI) in a pension case.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the case.
Justice Azmat Saeed remarked that in the past EOBI was not in safe hands. The Federal government had to pay
Rs 2.4 billion, which was not tax payers' money but belonged to an individual, he added.

He observed that if the court ordered an audit of the EOBI its 70 percent employees would have to be fired.
The Secretary Finance assured the court to deposit Rs 2.4 billion in EOBI accounts.
The court directed the Finance Ministry to pay amount to EOBI and submit a report in that regard.
Later, the case was adjourned till March 27.
