LHC summons Secretary PEMRA over anti-judiciary speeches

LAHORE:The Lahore High Court (LHC) Thursday summoned Secretary of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) in person on a petition, seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and other Pakistan Muslim League-N senior leaders for allegedly defaming the judiciary, and imposition of a ban on broadcast of their speeches.
The court, seeking a report and para-wise comments from PEMRA, also ordered for implementation of PEMRA's code of conduct regarding the speeches.
The single bench comprising Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi passed the orders on a petition, filed by one Munir Ahmad. APP/AFP
