OpEd- Panama Papers case verdict: Early Elections in sight

ISLAMABAD: Panama Papers case verdict is expected from the Supreme Court of Pakistan any time soon.

The ruling party is mulling all options regarding the Panama Case verdict.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has considered early elections if Supreme Court of Pakistan ruled against PM Nawaz Sharif in Panama Leaks case, according to sources.

The ruling party is all set to launch its election campaign. PML-N could demand early elections if Nawaz Sharif is proven guilty of any of the accusations. Sources also mentioned that PM’s daughter Maryam Nawaz would contest elections from Lahore.

PML-N has consulted the matter four times in the past three weeks. Although the party believes that the premier would come scot-free in Panamagate scandal yet all possibilities were discussed.

Government’s legal team is hopeful that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had failed to provide a lawful basis to disqualify the Prime Minister. About 90pc of the party leaders agreed to take the matter in public if SC ruled against PM Nawaz.

The PML-N leaders stated that their party was ready for elections while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had been restricted to Sindh alone. They believe that PTI’s politics was based on just protests.

The government leaders and ministers stretched their full support and trust towards Nawaz Sharif.
