NA passes resolution to declare Minorities Holi, Dewali and Easter as holidays

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly has passed a resolution to declare holidays on the occasion of religious festivals of minorities.
As per details, the resolution was moved by PML-N member Dr. Rumesh Kumar in NA during session here at Tuesday. He said in his resolution that government should announce holidays for minorities on their religious festivals including Dewali, Holi and Easter.
During the debate on resolution, State minister for Religious Affairs Pir Amin ul Hasnat told the National Assembly that it is the authority of Interior Ministry to declare holidays in country.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid pointed out that Pakistan has the highest number of holidays in the world and the matter of holidays should be reviewed in parliament.
He further added that if the matter of unnecessary holidays is discussed in parliament then holidays could be declared for minorities on their religious festival.
Later, Lower House unanimously passed the resolution saying that government should take steps for declaring holidays on the occasion of Holi, Easter and Dewali.
