UN seeks 500 strong security personnel contingent from Pakistan

*ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Peacekeeping Mission has once again sought security personnel from Pakistan.*
The Ministry of Interior has renewed list of police officers and other security personnel, after the high court had rejected the previous lists on allegation of nepotism.
Security personnel have been selected from Islamabad, Kashmir, Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The security personnel selected for UN Peacekeeping include 20 percent women. 500 of the youth would be provided training in July and August.
At least 197 personnel have been selected from Punjab Police and 153 from Sindh Police, while, 72 personnel have been selected from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 36 from Balochistan.
12 personnel have been selected from Islamabad, eight from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and six from Gilgit-Baltistan.
While, 16 personnel have been selected from Motorway Police, Federal Investigation Agency, National Accountability Bureau and other institutes.
On February 12, Pakistan had said at the United Nations (UN) that it had enhanced the participation of women in UN Peacekeeping Operations.
Speaking in the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Maleeha Lodhi had said that Pakistan was proud to have achieved the goal of deployment of 15 percent female staff officers in UN Missions.
She was referring to the fact that in less than 18 months Pakistan has gone from zero participation of female military staff officers in Peacekeeping to the UN prescribed benchmark of 15 percent.
