Real threats to India are from inside: Indian former NSA

NEW DELHI: Indian former National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon has elaborated the threat perception faced by India in the 21st century.

To the surprise of many, former National Security Advisor has not categorised either Pakistan or China as the national security threats to India rather he has emphasised upon the internal security threats faced by India.

The real threats to India are “internal” and emanate from communal and social violence, not from outside forces such as Pakistan or China, former National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon has said.

Asked if Pakistan or China pose an existential threat to India, he gave a categorical “No”.

In terms of national security, I think the real threats are internal, there’s no existential threat to India’s existence today externally, he further said.
