UN calls for independent investigation over attacks in Gulf of Oman

United Nations has called for an independent investigation to establish the facts and who was responsible for attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

Talking to reporters in New York, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said it’s very important to know the truth which can only be done if there is an independent entity that verifies those facts.

While China says no one want war and instability in the Gulf of Oman and urged the need for dialogue to resolve differences.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang in a statement called all sides to exercise restraint following attacks on oil tankers in the region.

Geng Shuang said Beijing has deeply concerned about the rising tension between U.S and Iran.

He said that China hoped all sides will resolve their differences through dialogue.

Meanwhile, European Union has called for maximum restraint amid mounting tensions over U.S. accusations against Iran over attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

A spokesperson of the EU’s Foreign Service talking to media said that we are gathering more information and assessing the situation.

She said that the region doesn’t need further escalation and destabilization and called for maximum restraint to avoid provocations.
