Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Dr Umar Saif has appreciated the Punjab government for allocating Rs 13.95 billion for Governance & Information Technology sector in budget 2016-17.
Commenting on the new Punjab budget for the next financial year, he said that the Punjab government aimed to leverage upon the revolution in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to modernize governance and keep Punjab abreast with global proficiency in service delivery.
He said that the major milestones achieved during last year were completion of Land Records Management and Information System Project (Phase I). The completion of Technology Incubator Plan 9 and Plan X at Arfa Software Technology Park Programme set a new history in the field of entrepreneurship in Pakistan.
He said that the completion of driving license management information system has made the license process more transparent and easier. Computerized FIR System would also end the decades old 'Thana Culture' in Punjab, he added.
He said that targets fixed for 2016-17 comprised of the flagship projects such as Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control and Communication Centre in order to ensure fool proof security, improve the law and order situation and traffic management system of six mega cities in Punjab.
Umer Saif said the Automation of Case and Courts Management System at the Lahore High Court & District Courts will help improve service delivery of law and justice to the people while the Local Government Automated Financial Management and Monitoring System will increase transparency and visibility of the financial accounts of the Punjab government.
