ISLAMABAD: Former PM Nawaz Sharif son has claimed that his father was not given a bed to sleep on in his cell at Adiala jail .

Hussain Nawaz , Nawaz Sharif’s son, tweeted that: “I am told that my father was not given a bed to sleep on and the bathroom was extremely dirty probably not cleaned for ages.”

“There’s no precedence of treating people’s representatives with dignity in this country but these are basic rights withdrawal of which constitute torture,” Hussain added.

Earlier, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and members of his family visited Adiala jail and met Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.

Nawaz Sharif’s mother Shamim Akhter, Shehbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz, Maryam Nawaz’s daughter Meharun Nisa and others visited the prison.

The meeting was held in the room of the superintendent of jail.

Nawaz and his daughter Maryam were arrested at the Lahore airport on July 13 upon their arrival from London.

They were taken to Islamabad in a special plane and were later shifted to Adiala jail .

Nawaz Sharif’s trial in the two remaining corruption references, Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal, would be held inside the Adiala Jail , the ministry of law and justice said in a notification issued on July 13.

On July 6, an accountability court had sentenced Nawaz Sharif and Maryam to jail for 10 and 7 years in jail in the Avenfield properties case.
