I was sexually abused too, says top fashion designer Maheen Khan

KARACHI: A famed fashion designer of Pakistan, Maheen Khan said she suffered abuse at the hands of a cleric who used to teach her the recitation of the Holy Quran at her residence.

The fashion designer said she faced immense fear every day ever since.

Celebrities in Pakistan also have started to speak out loud about the harrowing harassment and abuse experiences they have faced following several well-known women in Europe and the United States took to social media under the hashtag #MeToo to open up on the sexual abuse they faced.

Riding on the same wave, the western women stood up with a #TimeIsUp campaign against sexual harassment and abuse.

Now, it is women in Pakistan who have mustered the courage to say it all about their experiences regarding sexual abuse.

Earlier, famed Pakistani actor and activist Nadia Jamil also shocked her fans when she publicly spoke about the sexual abuse she endured as a child.

In multiple tweets, Nadia shared heartbreaking details of darkest experiences in her childhood.

Meanwhile, Maheen Khan said she shared her experience only to support other children who are subjected to the sick acts by so-called custodians of religion.
