JawaharLal Nehru University JNU Students Union leader arrested on sedition charges



NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University JNU students union leader Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested by Police on sedition and criminal charges.

 

Police arrested Kanhaiya Kumar for holding an anti-national event inside university premises and was remanded for three days by Delhi court.

 

A rally was held in JNU which used anti-India slogans against the hanging of Afzal Guru in 2013, who was convicted over India’s parliament attacks in 2001.

 

University teachers and students condemned the arrest and protested outside the Vice Chancellor’s office.

 

Kanhaiya claimed that he is innocent and being framed by police in a politically motivated case.
