Imran Khan case cannot be compared with Nawaz Sharif: Justice Faisal Arab

ISLAMABAD - Justice Faisal Arab on Friday said that Imran Khan’s case is different and cannot be compared to that of Nawaz Sharif.

Justice Faisal Arab wished to interpret constitutional article 62 1-F where a person can be disqualified if he has made assets with fraud and misuse of his authority and when a person is a elected official whose assets are disproportionate with regard to the income.

Justice Faisal Arab then wrote that Nawaz Sharif served on top level government posts for over 30 years and and as per merit for these positions, the person should not have black financial stains.

On the other hand, he continued, Sharif family failed to justify their source of income for London flats, Azizia Hotel, Azizia Steel Mills and Gulf Steel Mills and added that Nawaz Sharif did not possess these assets before ever holding Prime Minister’s office.

Citing these reasons, Justice Faisal argued that Imran Khan’s case should not be compared and is not compareable to Nawaz Sharif’s case adding that Nawaz Sharif willfully withheld information from court such as that of taking salary from FZE company which was inevitably revealed in JIT report.

Earlier today, announcing the verdict on PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi’s petitions, the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan dismissed plea to disqualify Imran Khan.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said Imran Khan was not liable to declare Niazi Services Ltd in his 2013 nomination papers as he was not a shareholder.

Bani Gala is Khan’s property and he bought the land for his family, the CJP announced.
