Afghan provincial police chief arrested over drug smuggling charges

KABUL: Afghanistan 's Herat Police Chief has been arrested. Security officials told TOLOnews on condition of anonymity that Abdul Hai Rasouli was arrested on Wednesday morning on charges of drug smuggling.


Jelani Farhad, a spokesman for the provincial governor of Herat confirmed Thursday that Abdul Hai Rasouli, the Herat Airport chief, has been arrested by the serious crimes unit in the western province.

Farhad did not give any further details but security officials told TOLOnews on condition of anonymity that Rasouli has been arrested on Wednesday for “having links in drug smuggling and transporting of (drugs) out of the country.”

The Herat police has not yet commented over the arrest.
