Media outlets urged to ensure self-accountability, introspection

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has urged media outlets to ensure self-introspection and accountability in order to enhance their credibility.
Addressing a conference of international news agencies in Islamabad today (Sunday), she said regulating the media does not serve the purpose.
The Minister said media in Pakistan has evolved in seventy years to reach a level where it has become free and vibrant and fourth pillar of the state.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said it is a good thing that Pakistan is completing 10 years of continuity of democracy and people will again be electing their representatives in the upcoming election.
The Minister said Pakistan, in last three decades has been dealing with challenges of terrorism and extremism and we are fighting a perception war in the world.
She said Pakistanis are a resilient nation and have overcome all challenges with fortitude. She said media can help bring peace and stability in the region.
She said media in our region is mostly concentrated on politics and it can play an important role in disseminating information about human development success stories.
Later, in an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan Islamabad correspondent Bilal Mehsud, Information Minister said the purpose of this conference is to highlight soft image of Pakistan in the new millennium.
She said it will also provide an opportunity to foreigners to know about our efforts against war on terror and continuity of democracy in Pakistan. AP
