LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) was assured on Wednesday the incumbent chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) would not be re-appointed after completion of his four-year tenure.
The assurance was made by a deputy attorney general on behalf of the government before a bench headed by Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza who was hearing an intra-court-appeal regarding PTA chairman appointment.
The law officer further assured that the post would be advertised on the completion of four years tenure by the incumbent chairman.
At this, the bench disposed of the appeal in the light of statement made by the law officer.
Earlier, the applicant’s counsel Sheraz Zaka submitted that PTA chairman could be re-appointed on completion of his four years tenure, as per terms of advertisement published for the purpose. He contended that the re-appointment of PTA chairman would be in violation of superior court’s judgments and the law.
The appeal was filed by Ahsan Altaf regarding PTA chairman appointment in 2017.
