GCU professor gunned down in Lahore

LAHORE: A professor at Government College University (GCU) Lahore was gunned down on Wednesday in the provincial capital’s Kalma Chowk area.

As per details, the incident occurred in Lahore’s Kalma Chowk area when GCU Professor Dr Akbar Cheema was travelling in his car and was intercepted by armed motorcyclists who opened indiscriminate firing on his car.

Resultantly, Dr Akbar Cheema received bullet injures after which he was rushed to hospital for medical assistance, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

His body was shifted to General Hospital for post mortem.

On the other hand, police have lodged a case against unknown men and initiated investigation.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and sought report from the CCPO.

He directed to arrest the culprits as soon as possible. The Punjab CM expressed his heartfelt condolences with the bereaved family.
