ERRA likely to be merged with NDMA: Report

ISLAMABAD - Senate was informed today that a proposal is under consideration to merge Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority with National Disaster Management Authority to effectively cope with natural disasters in future.
During a question hour, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan told the House that a proposal to this effect has been put before the cabinet for approval.
State minister said NDMA is currently working in liaison with provincial disaster management authorities to provide assistance to the people in drought hit areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
He said NDMA has also constructed humanitarian response facilities at strategic location in Quetta, Jallozai, Muzaffargarh, Lahore, Sukkur and Hyderabad with further facilities being planned for Islamabad, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit.
He said these facilities ensure the timely disaster relief is provided to the affected population. He said flood fighting equipment reserves have been established in Rawalpindi and Abdul Hakeem city.
