OIC urges world to recognise East Jerusalem as Palestine's capital

Organization of Islamic Conference has urged world powers to recognise occupied East Jerusalem as the capital of the "State of Palestine".

The demand was made in a final statement, following an emergency summit of the leaders from OIC member states in Istanbul.

The summit had been convened in response to the US President's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The Organization declared "East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine" and invited "all countries to recognise the State of Palestine and East Jerusalem as its occupied capital."

It declared Trump's decision as legally "null and void" and "a deliberate undermining of all peace efforts" that would give impetus to "extremism and terrorism".

The final statement said Trump's move is "an announcement of the US administration's withdrawal from its role as sponsor of peace".
