Nawaz Sharif was aware of Kargil issue: Pervaiz Musharaf

ISLAMABAD– Former President Gen. (retd) Pervez Musharraf has claimed that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ‘defamed the army’ over the Kargil issue.
In connection with the discussion at the defence committee meeting, Chaudhry Shujaat also affirmed Gen. Musharraf’s statement.
In an interview to Dunya News, Musharraf accused Nawaz Sharif of defaming the armed forces over the Kargil issue in the media. The former president added that Chaudhry Shujaat and Raja Zafar ul Haq were also aware of the ‘reality’.
“They went on their own, made their own decision and then withdrew it. Later they tried blaming me for the withdrawal,” said Musharraf.
Seconding Musharraf’s statement, Chaudhry Shujaat said that such a meeting, attended by Raja Zafar ul Haq, Pervez Musharraf and Nawaz Sharif, did take place. He confirmed that Nawaz Sharif was well-aware of the Kargil situation.
