Russia warns US launching air strikes could spark a war
MOSCOW:Russia has warned the US that launching air strikes in response to a suspected chemical attack in Syria could spark a war between the two countries.
Moscow's UN ambassador Vassily Nebenzia told reporters after a private meeting of UN Security Council in New York that the immediate priority is to avert the danger of war.
He said there was a heightened danger of escalation because of the Russian military presence in Syria.
On the other hand,US President Donald Trump put off final decision on possible military strikes against Syria for consultations with allies.
The White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, announced this in a brief statement after President Trump met with Defence Secretary Jim Mattis and other members of his National Security Council.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council will hold another emergency meeting at Russia's request on the threat to international peace from possible air strikes on Syria by the US and its allies. APP/AFP
