FM offers to share country's expertise in combating terrorism

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi says Pakistan as full member of Shanghai Cooperation Organization will work to play an even greater role in realization of shared aspirations.

He was addressing the SCO's 17th Council of Heads of Government meeting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan today (Friday).

The Minister said Pakistan has always been a firm believer and supporter of SCO charter. He said we believe that Pakistan's destiny is linked with SCO.

He said we remain determined to link Central Asia through our seaports and highways for shortest access to the sea. I reiterate establishment of SCO-Pakistan corridors for transit, trade and energy.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Pakistan has made substantial gains in combating terrorism and extremism.

He said in recent years we have conducted the world's largest and most effective counter-terrorism operation.

He said through the SCO regional anti-terrorist infrastructure, Pakistan remains ready to share its expertise and experience in combating terrorism.

The Foreign Minister emphasized the need for conduct of international relations based on principles of mutual interest and respect and shared aspirations. He said forces of coercion and unilateralism are on the rise.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said terrorism, regional and international conflicts, climate change, and inequitable growth are imperiling global trade and world peace.

This complex and challenging environment calls for a global architecture for peace, security and development that treats all the states on equal footings.
