Interior Ministry to launch E-Passports

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Ch. Nisar held meeting here  today to discuss the launching of E-Passport and arms licenses re-validation.


As per Interior Ministry Spokesperson, Interior Minister has decided to extend the tenure for six month to re-validate arms licenses. Current re-validation period had been expired on December 31.


After six month extension, now all manual licenses would be considered cancelled on July 1st. The meeting was briefed that 180,000 arms licenses have been computerized till December 2015 while over 8 thousands arms licenses found bogus during verification process.


Interior Minister Ch. Nisar ordered FIA to file cases against those who had bogus arms licenses. He also directed NADRA and Interior Ministry officials to start advertising campaign about the extension in arms re-validation.


Principle approval has also been given during the meeting to launch E-Passports while this project would be fully activated in 2017. According to this project all bio-metric information would be reserved of those having Passports while access would be possible to passports having people through chip in E-Passports.


Ch. Nisar expressed his hope that E-Passport project would be helpful to stop human trafficking incidents.
