U.S., Taliban talks end for now with no Afghan peace deal

The United States and Taliban negotiators wrapped up fifth round of peace talks today without any agreement.

According to media reports, the talks are expected to resume in late this month. U.S. special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad is now expected to return to the United States to brief U.S. officials.

During talks, the U.S. has pressed the Taliban to declare a ceasefire while Taliban leaders reiterated their demand of withdrawing of foreign troops from Afghan soil.
