E-tendering system soon to ensure transparency: CM

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has said that e-tendering system will be introduced in the government departments soon to ensure transparency in the contracting process.

The modern facility would be implemented in phases, said the chief minister while presiding over an important meeting at his office here on Tuesday. The e-tendering system will ensure transparency, eliminate corruption and the national resources would be spent on public welfare, he added.

The CM said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was ensuring transparency and embezzlement of national resources would be eliminated as all departments would be bound to award contracts through the e-tendering system from the next financial year. The meeting decided that rural roads would be constructed and repaired under “Naya Pakistan, Manzalain Asaan” programme to benefit the people living there.

Unlike in the past, three times more development funds were being allocated for construction of roads in backward districts, the CM said, adding that development funds would be provided to villages in every district in proportionate to the rural population.

He said that roads would be constructed and widened for promotion of agriculture, energy, tourism and other sectors and dual carriageways and link roads would be constructed to connect cities with China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.

The CM directed the Communication and Works (C&W) department to formulate policy reforms and standards for roads. The meeting was told that repair and construction of roads would be conducted through public-private partnership and initially, 11 such projects had been identified including Mianwali-Chakwal dual carriageway and other roads, to be constructed for connecting Jhang-Kabirwala, Khanewal and Okara with M4 under the mode.

The C&W secretary gave a briefing about the departmental performance and projects. Provincial ministers Hashim Jawan Bakht, Sardar Asif Nakai, chief secretary, chairman P&D, provincial secretaries and others attended the meeting.
