ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain says continuity of democracy is a good omen for the country and it is also a testimony to the fact that all the institutions are strengthening.
Addressing an Iftar dinner in Islamabad, he hoped that the upcoming government would work for betterment and prosperity of the people of Pakistan.
Talking about menace of terrorism, the President said Pakistan has been affected by it and the country rendered unrivalled sacrifices in the war on terror. Pakistan has suffered colossal losses as a frontline state in the war on terrorism and its economy suffered loss of 127 billion dollars.
He said the scourge of terrorism and extremism is the most pressing and daunting challenges that today’s world is confronted with. The forces of violence and bigotry challenge the very existence of humanity in the name of religion, ethnic superiority, economic supremacy or even pure hegemonic desires.
The President said peace, security, prosperity and development require well-thought-out and all-encompassing efforts of all partners. He made it clear that in today’s globalized and integrated world, Pakistan cannot attain peace and prosperity when our neighborhoods are embroiled in conflict and war.
He urged the international community to take note of the gross human rights violations being committed in India-occupied Kashmir and to press upon India the need for meaningful dialogue and engagement with Pakistan to resolve all outstanding issues including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
