Trump hails progress after receiving letter from N. Korea's Kim

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has revealed a letter from the top leader of the North Korea, in which Kim Jong Un expressed optimism for future ties with the United States.

In the letter posted by Trump on Twitter, Kim called his historic Singapore meeting with Trump in mid-June "the start of a meaningful journey."

The date of the letter was around the time when U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was on a three-day visit to Pyongyang.

Meanwhile, United States has accused North Korea of breaching a U.N. sanctions cap on refined petroleum by making illicit transfers between ships at sea.

The United States submitted the complaint to the U.N. Security Council North Korea sanctions committee.
