In an unusual development, NAB arranged visit of senior journalists group to Lahore Headquarters over torture allegations

LAHORE - National Accountability Bureau has arranged a visit of senior journalists group to the Lahore Headquarters after several arrested leaders accused NAB of torture in custody.

A group of senior journalists on Thursday visited the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)’s jail section in Lahore and observed the facilities being provide to inmates there.

The visit was arranged by NAB Lahore Director General Shahzad Saleem, who briefed the journalists on this occasion. The journalists were shown the prison cells where captives were held.

Saleem Shehzad said the NAB believed in merit and nobody was tortured in the cells, while a doctor was available all the time for medical check-up of the suspects to monitor their health.

ARY News correspondent Mazhar Iqbal said the journalists were made to visit the NAB jail for few days ago Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and another senior PML-N leader Saad Rafique alleged that surveillance cameras were installed even in bathrooms of the NAB Lahore jail.

The NAB Lahore DG said there was no veracity in the PML-N leaders’ claims. Neither anybody was made subject to any kind of torture nor biased treatment was provided to someone, he said.
