ISLAMABAD - Former PM Nawaz Sharif who was in Adiala Jail, has been released on parole for 12 hours.

Punjab home department has issued the notification.

He will be immediately leaving for Lahore.

Earlier Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has said that federal government would release the Sharif family members on parole for 12 hours from jail for Kulsoom Nawaz funeral.

He said on Tuesday the government would extend all possible assistance to the Sharif family in accordance to the law, following the demise of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz in London.

The minister, while expressing grief over the sad demise, acknowledged that the wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was a ‘brave and dignified’ woman.

As per law, deposed premier Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and his son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar could be released on parole for 12 hours to attend the funeral of Begum Kulsoom, he said. “The government would act on Sharif’s request for release according to the law,” he added. “They (Sharifs) would be given all possible assistance as allowed in the law.”

Speaking about the PTI link government’s agenda, the minister told the state-run PTV that Prime Minister Imran Khan would take big decisions in coming days.

He said the prime minister enjoys equal support both in and outside the country. Pakistan at present is facing multiple and big challenges and Prime Minister Imran would certainly not disappoint the people, the PTI link leader claimed.
