PSL 3 draft ceremony kicks off in Lahore

LAHORE – The drafting ceremony for the upcoming edition of Pakistan Super League 3 kicked off with national and international cricketers eyeing positions in playing XI.

The prestigious ceremony started with the address of Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Najam Sethi at the National Cricket Stadium Lahore.

The Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi and first-time entrant, Multan Sultans, will select their players today (Sunday).

While drafts for other players are underway, all-rounder Shoaib Malik was appointed as the captain of Multan Sultans with Tom Moody as the head coach of the team.

The PSL teams have already retained nine players each and have gone into the draft 2017 to pick one Platinum, one Diamond, one Gold, two Silver and two Emerging players each to complete their squads of 16 players.

Teams may also pick up to four players in the Supplementary rounds, and each team will have a salary cap of $ 1.2 million for a squad of 20 players.

The first round of the draft will be for the Platinum Players followed by Diamond Players in the second round. The players in Gold Category will be drafted in the third round while players in the silver group will be drafted in the fourth and fifth rounds. Emerging players will be drafted into the franchises in the sixth and seventh round. The next four rounds will be for the drafting of Supplementary players.

Lahore Qalandars will be allowed the first pick. This will be followed by Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans. Trades could be allowed and as a result, the order could be changed.
