Afghan Taliban capture district in Afghanistan, kill police chief along with atleast 8 soldiers

KABUL - On Sunday night a large group of Taliban attacked the Farah district center and captured it, the MoI said.

The Afghan ministry’s deputy spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said that air and ground forces managed to push the Taliban back from the district center but that clashes are ongoing in some areas.

Rahimi meanwhile confirmed the death of eight security force members including the district police chief.

He said however that dozens of local and foreign Taliban fighters had been involved in the attack.

According to him at least 56 Taliban fighters have so far been killed and dozens more wounded, especially in the airstrikes.
