Former finance minister Ishaq Dar in hot waters

ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday has expressed resentment over former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’s absence from the court despite the last court notice.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar heard former Pakistan Television (PTV) chairman Attaul Haq Qasmi appointment case and inquired about Ishaq Dar’s presence but he once again failed to appear before the court.

CJP Saqin Nisar directed Interior Secretary to take immediate step to call Ishaq Dar back to Pakistan as majority people have completed their arguments.

He said that Ishaq Dar remained in contact with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in London but not responding to the court summons.

The top judge inquired that who instructed to pay Attaul Haq Qasmi Rs15,00,000 as monthly income. “Was he eligible for this?” he questioned.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials are present in the courtroom, the case would be handed over to NAB to investigate either the appointment was legal or not, he continued.

Former finance secretary of Pakistan told the court that Attaul Haq Qasmi’s pay summary was sent by information ministry and relative wing reviewed it.

According to the pay summary, ex-MD PTV was receiving Rs 14,00,000 salary, he added.
