Pakistan likely to buy Russian S - 400 Missile Defence System: International media report

*PANAGYURISHTE, (BM)* – Islamabad is likely to buy Russian S-400 air defense systems already ordered in series production for India. Such an opinion is creeping into the Russian and Asian media in recent days. Journalist Andrei Belinov wrote link about this possibility in the Russian edition of Volga Today, whose idea is already widely discussed among other media.

Blinov believes that everything is a matter of choice. India place at the political crossroads between Moscow and the West. Last year, in 2020, New Delhi and Washington signed a key agreement. India and the United States have agreed to participate in joint projects to exchange geospatial information and military technology. But before that, in 2018, India agreed to pay Russia nearly $ 5 billion to buy new air defense systems – the S-400.

Blinov suggests that today India is on the same path as Turkey. If it chooses to *“stay”* in the deal and get Russian technology, Washington could impose sanctions on New Delhi. Moreover, like Turkey, India can also be excluded from precisely those projects for which both countries signed the agreement. Washington may deny access to American developments in the future.

Russia, in the eyes of the Indians, is a country that sells them weapons. The United States, for its part, is a desirable partner against a future Chinese invasion. For its part, Pakistan is the best solution for Russia – it is at war with India, supported by China, and has long distrusted the United States. Blinov believes that this camp could favor Islamabad and the Pakistanis to get the most modern air defense systems today.

It’s all a matter of decisions. One of the decisions should be made by the other side – Russia. In recent months, military analysts have begun to spread the view that India has become part of a strategy to deter China. The United States and France, with their influence among Indians, can drive a pole into the wheel of Russian-Chinese friendship. Therefore, experts do not rule out Moscow’s possible to turn to Islamabad with a purchase offer. Pakistan will not refuse, despite the expected US sanctions. Such signals also appeared in the Indian media

Possible US sanctions over the S-400 purchase have worried India. The Indian newspaper Mint wrote that the multibillion-dollar deal with Russia could trigger US sanctions on New Delhiq according the US Congress Research Service (CRS) report.

CRS is an independent, bipartisan research wing of Congress. The CRS reports are not an official report of the US Congress and do not represent the congressmen’s views. Independent experts prepare them to help legislators make informed decisions.

The document notes that New Delhi “has committed to greater technology exchange and co-production of initiatives,” while the US is calling for further India reforms. The Americans propose concentrating on defense financing and imposing higher restrictions on foreign direct investment in this sector.

The report, prepared for Congress members, warned that New Delhi’s multibillion-dollar deal to buy the Russian S-400 air defense system could cause US restrictions on India under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act. Boeing may play a significant role in relations between Russia and India

India is the largest customer of Russia’s military aircraft industry. The Su and MiG fighters are at the heart of the Indian Air Force. This situation could go on forever until Boeing challenged its technology and adapted it to India’s needs.

It is an F-18 Super Hornet, which faces the Russian MiG29K in the battle for the Indian Navy. New Delhi will soon have its aircraft carrier. India’s new pride will have to have 4th generation fighters to take off and land on a smaller runway than standard. And also – the track is in the form of a ski trench.

MiG-29K has no problems with such requirements, and it is designed for this type of aircraft carrier. But Boeing holds on to the Indian market. In the summer, he managed to outrun himself, and the local Boeing branch conducted successful take-off and landing tests on a smaller runway in the form of a ski trench. We even posted this video.

The United States has struck at Russia’s ambitions. As a monopolist, the MiG-29K has found itself in a market where its main advantage is no longer the case. Suddenly, Boeing’s chances have increased several times, playing a significant role in New Delhi and Washington’s future relationship. But not only on these – India’s friendship with Russia is seriously threatened. And if Russia sided with China, Russia’s S-400 systems could indeed fall into Pakistan’s hands.
