LAHORE: (APP) A Lahore High Court division bench on Thursday withdrew its orders wherein permanent appointments of seven vice chancellors were made provisional.

The bench headed by LHC Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed these orders on an intra court appeal (ICA) by the Punjab government challenging the LHC single bench orders in VCs appointment case.

During the hearing, Advocate General Punjab Shakeelur Rehman Khan appeared before the bench and briefed that the appeal and single bench orders were related to appointment of vice chancellors in Punjab University, Lahore College for Women University, University of Sargodha and Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering & Technology Multan.

However, on last hearing, the bench held that the vice chancellors already appointed in Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi, Government College University Lahore, University of Education Lahore, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, Ghazi University Dera Ghazi Khan, Government Sadiq Degree College for Women University Bahawalpur, Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering & Information Technology Rahim Yar Khan would work on provisional basis and linked their appointment with final outcome of the appeal after a law officer did not assist the court properly, claiming that the matter also affects their appointment, he added.

He maintained that the matter was limited to appointment of four vice chancellors only and appointment of seven other vice chancellors did not fall in it.

At this, the bench recalled its earlier orders wherein permanent appointments of seven vice chancellors were made provisional. The bench held that it passed the orders due to ambiguity caused by the contentions of the law officer.

The bench adjourning the hearing till January 16 observed the appeal would be heard on daily basis from next hearing.
