Shahbaz grilling NAB, misusing PAC authority, says Shafqat

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Education, Shafqat Mehmood said that grilling national accountability bureau (NAB) officers and misusing the authority of public accounts committee (PAC) as chairman, was completely out of understanding.

Expressing these views on a private tv news channel programe, the minister said it was astonishing to observe that a convict who had number of corruption cases and facing the court trials, was snubbing the NAB officers besides misusing the powers given to the former chief minister Punjab as chairman of PAC.

He said the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), had been playing role as Opposition in the past, adding that we never made hue and cry over the speech of Nawaz Sharif. He said that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), and other current leaders in Opposition benches had made efforts to halt the proceedings of the assembly. He said such behavior does not suit to parliament. He said the norms or respect of the houses (national and provincial assemblies), should be upheld.

To a question he said we did not decide to remove the chairmanship of Shahbaz Sharif from PAC. But, he added that we will have to look into the matter after meeting with the members of our party. He, however said that dignity of the parliament should be maintained. He added that PTI had serious concern over the issue of misusing the authority of Shahbaz Sharif as chairman of PAC.

The minister further stated that mishandling the authorities of PAC, besides grilling the NAB, was a matter of concern for PTI.

He was of the view that such attitude of the Opposition might be for diverting the attention of the public from their cases.
