At least 49 dead in a prison brawl between two rival drug cartel in Mexican Jail



MEXICO: At least 49 inmates killed and 12 injured in a prison brawl between two rival members of Zetas drug cartel.

 

The incident occurred in Topo Chico prison in the northeastern Mexican city of Monterrey.

 

The fight started on a dispute over control of the prison which lasted for 30 to 40 minutes.

 

The prisoners used sharp weapons, bats, sticks and also set fire in the supply room.

 

The National Human Rights Commission stated that prison has capacity for 3,635 convicts and 3,800 inmates along with 100 guards were present there. 

 

Hundreds of people gathered to the prison’s gate and demand information about their relatives.

 

Later authorities covered the area and transferred the injured to hospital.
