Afghanistan Cricket team to play its first ever test match against India

KABUL - The Afghanistan national cricket team is expected to face India in its maiden and historic test match after receiving approval for the test matches by the International Cricket Council.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary informed in this regard as he was unveiling the plans for the coming years.

“Afghans were scheduled to play their first Test in 2019 versus Australia but considering the historic relationship between India and Afghanistan, we decided to host their first Test,” he said.

Choudhry further added that the exact dates for the test match will be chalked out later.

This comes as Afghanistan was granted Test Status by the International Cricket Council (ICC) late in June this year.

The Afghan team obtained the Test Status together with Ireland after their memberships were approved as Full Members by the ICC, meaning they have become cricket’s 11th and 12th Test-playing nations.

Afghanistan and Ireland’s boards had applied to the ICC to have their status upgraded from Associates, and this was put to vote at the meeting late in June and was unanimously supported.
