Afghan Army former General mysteriously killed in Kabul

KABUL - Zalmay Wardak, a former Afghan national army general, a military analyst and possible candidate for upcoming parliamentary elections, was mysteriously murdered at his residence in Kabul on Thursday night.

Kabul police said the cause of the murder seems to be personal enmity and that police have arrested his driver in connection to the incident, TOLO News has reported.

“How the criminals and enemies of religion and the country dare to commit killing and murder of innocent people?” asked Farooq Wardak, minister of state for parliamentary affairs.

Meanwhile, residents in Kabul have accused security institutions of failure to ensure the safety of the people.

“it should be investigated that how he was murdered. This is dangerous and could spread to others if it is not prevented,” said military analyst Abdul Wahid Taqat.

“Police swiftly reached to the scene after getting the report, but the criminals had escaped. Investigation is ongoing,” said Nusrat Rahimi, Interior Ministry's deputy spokesman.
