Massive reshuffle in top bureaucracy, lists prepared for new names

LAHORE: Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Sanaullah Abbasi and Interior Secretary Yousuf Naseem Khokar among other government officers are most likely to be replaced soon after Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif takes charge as Prime Minister of Pakistan, it is learnt through reliable sources.

The FIA had been investigating Shehbaz Sharif and his family including Hamza Shahbaz and Salman Shahbaz for Rs16 billion’s alleged money laundering for the past couple of years.

Director FIA Punjab Lahore Zone-1 DIG Dr Muhammad Rizwan and his team had already submitted a challan in the court against incoming premier but Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza couldn’t be indicted even after several months have passed. Currently, both are on pre-arrest bails from a lower court.

Names of senior bureaucrats including Azam Khan, former PS to former PM Imran Khan, sugar inquiry team head Dr Muhammad Rizwan and former director general Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab DIG Gohar Nafees have already been put in the stop list so they could not leave the country.

According to PML-N sources, names of senior police officers including AD Khawaja, Rai Tahir and Dr Usman Anwar are being considered for the slot of DG FIA.

Similarly, they said, Dr Tauqeer Shah is most likely to be appointed as Personal Secretary to incoming Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Mr Shah had already served Shehbaz Sharif as his personal secretary when the latter was Chief Minister Punjab.

Sources within PML-N further told that chief secretaries and IGPs of various provinces are most likely to be replaced as well.
