*ISLAMABAD- Instagram is going to roll out a new data-portability tool, which will allow users to download everything on the service.*
Amid the intense scrutiny on Facebook over the last few weeks regarding data privacy, the Facebook-owned company has upped its content game by giving users more power over their data. “We are building a new data portability tool. You’ll soon be able to download a copy of what you’ve shared on Instagram , including your photos, videos and messages,” *Tech Crunch* quoted a company’s spokesperson.
Despite being around for almost eight years, Instagram users currently lack the option to download or save their own or their followers’ pictures and videos, unlike its parent company. However, details such as the timeline for when the update is expected to be introduced and whether users will only be able to download their own data or also of their friends remain undisclosed.
According to *Variety, *the news about the upgrade comes after Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is all set for implementation on May 25. GDPR is a regulation in EU law on data privacy and protection for the individuals within the region.
