Afghan Taliban announce launch of spring offensive

KABUL: Afghan Taliban announced launch of spring offensive at large scale.

Taliban claimed to launch “Operation Omari” that includes suicide attacks and guerrilla warfare against government.

“Jihad against the aggressive and usurping infield army is a holy obligation upon our necks and our only recourse for re establishing an Islamic system and regaining our independence,” Taliban quoted in a statement.

The announcement came just after days of US official visit of Afghanistan who claimed to support the Afghan government and urged regional countries to put pressure on Afghan Taliban to come to the negotiation table.

Taliban also claimed to target Afghan troops with all their resources and to establish good governance in captured areas to avoid civilian causalities.

Taliban boosted their anti-government campaign after the end of NATO’s combat mission in 2014.

Taliban are targeting government troop in insurgent attacks that has killed 11,000 civilians last year.

Afghan government is also struggling for peace talks with Taliban to end the 14 years old war.

US special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Olson urged Pakistan to use influence over Taliban to bring them  to the negotiation table for peace talks.

Taliban claimed that they will not negotiate until their demands not fulfilled.
