AJK welcomes academic collaborations with Turkish university

MIRPUR (AJK): AJK President Sardar Masood Khan has said that the people and governments of Pakistan, Azad Jammu Kashmir and Turkey enjoy close and cordial relations which are historically based on mutual trust, and deep cultural and religious affiliations.

The President made these remarks while interacting with Prof. Dr. Huseyin Kara, Vice Rector, Selcuk University, Konya, who called on the President at Jammu and Kashmir House on Monday.
He was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan, Vice Chancellor University of Poonch.

Prof. Dr. Huseyin Kara during his visit to AJK toured the University of Poonch, where he discussed initiatives for promoting student and faculty exchange programmes between University of Poonch and Selcuk University.
During the meeting, he also informed the President of a proposal to start joint degree programs with the University of Poonch.

The President was apprised of an MoU signed between the two universities for initiating student and faculty exchange programmes.
He said that faculty and students from the engineering, agriculture basic sciences and other disciplines will all benefit from these initiatives.

Dr. Prof. Huseyin also informed President AJK of enhancing academic collaborations at all levels. He added that along with academic collaborations, he also proposed to enhance industry to industry collaborations by organising meetings between the Chamber of Commerce of Koniya and AJK.

The President thanked Prof. Dr. Huseyin for visiting the University of Poonch and exploring avenues of collaborations with Selcuk University.
He said that the people of AJK are indebted to the people and government of Turkey as they have played an instrumental role in the reconstruction of Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Rawalkot after the devastating 2005 earthquake.
He added that Turkish companies have invested in Pakistan and AJK which displays the cordial relations enjoyed between Pakistan, AJK and Turkey.

President AJK said that Turkey has played a pivotal role in uniting the Muslim nations and we look up to its leadership for their commitment towards ensuring world peace.
He welcomed the initiatives of Selcuk University and reinforcing its commitment towards academic collaborations.
The President during the interaction said that the AJK Government is focused on promoting quality higher education, enhancing the competence of its faculty and ensuring placement of its graduates in the growing job market.

He said that such collaborations will help achieve these goals, all the while, helping further strengthen our people to people relations.
Prof. Dr. Huseyin Kara also proposed holding next year’s Pak-Turk Academic Conference at the University of Poonch.
He also invited President Masood Khan to visit Selcuk University and address the students on Pakistan Turkish relationship and also on the issue of Kashmir.
