Haqqani network 2 key commanders arrested in Afghanistan

KABUL - At least five members of the Haqqani network have been arrested during an operation of the Afghan national defense and security forces in central Maidan Wardak province.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said at least two key commanders and another key member of the network who was involved in making roadside mines are also among those arrested.

“Five Haqqani Network Group members were arrested including two key commanders of the group during overnight special operation conducted by the General Command of Police Special Units (GCPSU) in Tangi Wardak region, Sayed Abad district of Maidan Wardak province,” MoI said in a statement.

The statement further added that Two key commanders of the group identified as Obaidullah and Abdul Haq are also among those arrested.

“During the operation, a Haqqani Network Group member who was expert of Improvised explosive Device (IED) making also killed,” the statement said, adding that no GCPSU member and civilian were harmed.

The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban and Haqqani network have not commented regarding the report so far.
